Brief

In the month of October I will be linking up with other writers on Five Minute Friday for thirty-one days. Each day I will write about one word for five minutes. Here goes…

A few days ago I was driving down Riverside Drive and saw a shadow in the blue sky.

It was an eagle.

It doesn’t matter that I see them often; I experience a thrill every time. They are powerful, majestic, and beautiful. They take your breath away.

Then a brief story from my childhood came to mind.  Before my grandparents retired and moved next door to us in the country, they lived on Riverside Drive. Interestingly, I now live about ½ mile from where they lived.

In my memory, I asked my Grandmother where could I find a washcloth to wash my face.

My Grandfather’s reply was, “I saw it running down Riverside Drive.”

Of course I was old enough to know better, but I laughed anyway. This became the standard joke with Grandpa. If you couldn’t find something, it was running down the street.

Isn’t it interesting how a small thing can bring back a memory? Pleasant or not, our memories come back to us. However brief the memory is, it had an impact on us.

Do you remember your first encounter with God? Do you remember the first verse  that you memorized? All these things are connected in our lives to round us out.

Think of a brief story in your life and how it impacted you towards God. How did it change you?

Words make a difference, stories help build our character.  How can you take a hard story and turn it to good in your life?
