Capture

In the month of October I will be linking up with other writers on Five Minute Friday for thirty-one days. Each day I will write about one word for five minutes. Here goes…

There are so many distractions in the world, constantly hit by ideas that capture our thoughts. Most of these thoughts we think are our own. Some of these seem right and true, until we think on them with the scripture at our side. But what if we don’t read scripture?

What we see and hear, and take to heart can be deadly, dangerous, and life changing.

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”

Someone told me she does not think of this as arrows piercing her body, but instead, a spear.

How much damage can a spear make? It can be the death of us.

We are constantly seeking for peace and fulfillment in this world, but it will not be. We can fill ourselves up on new ideas:

be a minimalist

get plastic surgery

go to the gym, take part in extreme sports

work 60 hours a week building a career

travel constantly to discover new places

search all the religions of the world to see if one fits

make ourselves our own god

There is one on the earth that works hard to capture your thoughts every day. He wants to be your captain and steer you on the path of your choice. You may think it’s your choice, but in the end it leads you where you never wanted to go.

Do not be fooled by this compelling man. He only wants your destruction.

There is no way he wants you to give your life to Christ and have permanent peace; life eternal.

Don’t give this enemy of God a foothold. Life is not about you or me. It is the life that is living in us, spilled out for others.

Colossians 2:8

“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.”
