In the month of October I will be linking up with other writers on Five Minute Friday for thirty-one days. Each day I will write about one word for five minutes. Here goes…
There are songs, and there are songs. Couples have “their song,” or a memory song, as I call this one:
I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me.
If you have never heard this song you must be from another planet. Please don’t take offense; it’s just that the song leaped from the Christian to mainstream music. Everyone was listening to it.
I remember it well. It came out the year my mother died of cancer. Music was my grief-healer. I cried with the radio. Music heals your soul where nothing else can reach.
My mother was a natural singer from the time she was a small child. My best memories are when we were young and our parents were together and happy; my Mom sang…all the time. If I didn’t learn to love music and songs from the heart, I must be heartless.
It seemed so effortless when she sang in church. Her voice carried with ease, and she smiled when she sang of Jesus.
Mercy Me band has words for our weary hearts, words of encouragement, and God’s grace. They understand grief and hardship. Go to YouTube and listen. There may be a favorite song for you.
