In the month of October I will be linking up with other writers on Five Minute Friday for thirty-one days. Each day I will write about one word for five minutes. Here goes…
Being together, working together, playing together works best when we are likeminded.
We had two events at church this past weekend. A woman’s taste and see event, involving foods, a craft, and one woman sharing her experience with cancer. Since we have been away often, I wasn’t involved in this year’s event. An enormous amount of work is needed in an event like this for it to be a success. Time and self-sacrifice are at the top of the list.
On Sunday we had a light up the night event, which is also called trunk or treat. We had face painting, a few bounce houses, a balloon man, a fire truck, and trunks full of games and candy. In the church a magician performed his tricks. This was the first time event for our church and it was a huge hit, having twelve trunks and about six hundred visitors.
Not one or two of us could have done either event. These were major undertakings that needed leadership, a plan, and many workers giving up time and energy.
This is what together means. Sacrificing for the whole.
How many times do we read in the gospels about Christ exhausting himself preaching and healing? There were twelve men who were there to help, and when Christ was pressed beyond himself, they took over and sent him off alone to pray to the father.
Don’t fear getting involved, but remember to take a rest.
