What’s So Good About a New Year?

It says NEW…and yet we deal with last years old: same car payments, electric bills, fuel bills, the appointments, health problems and probably the same job to pay for all this. Don’t forget the taxes…

So what is so different besides 2-0-1-9 and hanging a brand new calendar?

This is our second time starting the New Year away from home, which is strange in itself, and I’m fighting against thoughts that I should say something about the New Year because it’s what we bloggers do.

Since resolutions are setting us up for failure, I set goals loosely. In my mind it is not the same thing, but probably is.

I made a neat little list, not demanding, not “for sure resolutions.” Even though I had only a few years of piano lessons, I never lost the love of it so I put it at the top. I was pleased with the list until I looked at it today…

I couldn’t believe that my number one goal wasn’t even there.

Foreboding?

I certainly hope not.

I slapped it at the end of the list I made on my phone (IN BOLD), but I don’t like it there. It should be on the top…with a deadline.

So what is so good about a New Year?

One important thing: God is in it, whether you believe in him or not.

“See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven”.

 Hebrews 12:25

The second important thing: The Living God still speaks.

“Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,  having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude”.

Colossians 2:6

I have a good start reading the New Testament books again, because I know God still speaks to us. If my goal list fails I will not be a failure, knowing that He directs my path and leads me to rest.

If 2019 turns out a year to forget, I will not give up on the One who is faithful.

Speak to Him today about your New Year. Don’t forget to listen for answers.
